Dr. B R Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) was the first Open University to be established in the country. It came into existence in August 1982, due to a bill passed by the Andhra Pradesh State Legislature. Previously known as the Andhra Pradesh Open University, it is located in the city of Hyderabad.
The Dr. B R Ambedkar Open University provides courses at certificate, Bachelor’s degree, PG, and research level.
IGNOU – Indira Gandhi National Open University was started as a Central University under the IGNOU act passed by the Parliament in 1985. Today IGNOU is one of the largest open universities in the world. The courses offered in IGNOU range from certificate programs to doctrates. IGNOU brought a change in the way of the Indian education by largely focusing on Distance Education.
